Kirsten McFarlane
Background:
I've been a student of Pilates since 2003, teaching for almost 7 of those years. As a former physiotherapist, Joseph Pilates' method of full body integration & functional movement makes so much sense. Outside of the studio, I juggle my family’s needs (husband, 2 teenagers and a goofball dog) and am happiest playing in the mountains: skiing, hiking, biking and lake swimming.
Why I teach?
I love what I do. I get to work with students of all ages (13-92), stages (athletes to elderly) and fitness abilities to help them move, feel and LIVE better. Truly, this is the best job in the world!
Education:
I have a degree from McGill University in Physical Therapy but prefer the holistic approach of Pilates. I did my original 1000 hour Comprehensive Teacher Training with Louise Tomcheck (2nd Generation - Romana Kryzanowska trained) at the beautiful Whistler Pilates studio. I am continuing my professional development by being part of The Method, an exclusive, invitation only internship program with Vintage Pilates Elder Jay Grimes and Master Teacher Sandy Shimoda. I have nearly completed my Franklin Method Level 1 Certification.
What I’ve learned from Contrology:
Joseph Pilates was way ahead of his time. He understood how integral a healthy body is to quality of life, which is reflected in his famous quote: “Physical fitness is the first requisite to happiness.” I can't think of an area of my life that Contrology hasn't had a positive effect on: I stand taller, do ALL my sports better, have better focus & more patience, plus I rarely get sick. This system continues to amaze, inspire, challenge and change me both personally and professionally.
